Marriage Counseling

Marriage Therapy

Most couples want to feel loved, safe, and secure in their relationship. They want to feel connected and bonded to each other in a more deeply satisfying way. Life can be very stressful and a healthy, happy, and loving relationship can assist in getting through life's challenges.

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)

I utilize Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and have advanced training in EFT. EFT is different from the typical marriage/couples' therapy. A structured approach, EFT was developed by Drs. Sue Johnson and Les Greenberg in the 1980s. It is grounded in research and it works! Research studies have found that 70%-75% of couples undergoing EFT find that they can move from distress to recovery, and 90% show great improvement in their relationship. Their recovery is long standing. A more complete description of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy can be found at

A Fresh Start - A Healthier Relationship
  • What To Expect From Marriage Counseling/What Happens In Marriage Counseling

I typically meet with you together for the first session. After our initial meeting, I like to meet one-on-one with each of you so I can get to know you better on an individual basis. After these sessions, we meet together again, as a couple, where I begin to help you identify the "unhealthy relating patterns" you fall into. In other words, each couple has a favorite "dance" and my job, along with your help, is to help you find your way back to relating and connecting in a healthy and deeply satisfying way.

  • How To Fix A Failing Marriage

In many cases, meeting with a professional counselor, such as with myself, is a great way to address relationship concerns. As your marriage counselor in Scottsdale, I'm committed to you and will "roll up my sleeves" along with you to help you find your way back to one another and help you each fulfill your deepest and greatest needs and wants in your relationship. Again, the goal is not to seek out the "bad guy" between the two of you, but to help you identify how to replace unhealthy relating patterns into new and healthy bonding interactions with one another.

When To Get Marriage Counseling.
When it feels like there is a breakdown in communication, ways of relating, when there has been infidelity, when there is a lack of intimacy or loss of feelings of love, are all good times to seek marriage counseling. Or if you just want to grow a healthy marriage in a more lasting way, or find deeper ways to connect, is a great time to seek counseling.

What Is The Success Rate Of Marriage Counseling?

What Are The Most Common Problems In Marriage?

How Can I Revive My Marriage?
Reviving a marriage is hard work, but I am committed to helping you navigate your way back to each other in a very satisfying way. I often give my couples "homework" to complete outside of the counseling session so that the greatest return on investment can be found. If you are willing to stop "blaming" your spouse and are open to becoming more self-aware and less "defended" and become cognizant of your relationship patterns, then I believe marriage revival is possible.
Can Marriage Counseling Really Help?

Yes, marriage counseling can help if each partner is dedicated to the process. My experience has been that most couples can recover from a poor relationship and instead enjoy a deeper, more connected relationship if they are willing to do the work. EFT gets to the heart of the matter, and we won't waste unnecessary time and money on tactics that don't work.

I am considered an out-of-network provider. I can provide you with a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. I do not bill your insurance directly.
